What Is Corpse Pose (Savasana)?
Corpse Pose, known as Savasana in Sanskrit, is a full body resting posture used to end a yoga session. It helps the body release tension, soften the nervous system and enter a calm, meditative state. This pose encourages deep relaxation, supports emotional balance and allows the benefits of your practice to settle into the body.
When You Should Avoid This Pose
Corpse Pose is suitable for most people. If lying flat on the floor feels uncomfortable for the lower back, place a rolled blanket under the knees. Pregnant practitioners may prefer to lie on their side rather than on the back.

How to Do Corpse Pose in 3 Easy Steps
1. Lie down and settle.
Lie on your back with your arms and legs extended comfortably. Allow your feet to fall open and soften your shoulders into the mat.
2. Soften your whole body.
Tuck your tailbone slightly to lengthen your lower back. Inhale and let the breath soften your entire body. Allow your mind to become quiet as you enter a state of rest.
3. Hold and release.
Stay in the pose for several minutes or as long as it feels comfortable. To end, roll gently onto one side and press yourself up to a seated position.
Variation: Use a Blanket Under the Knees
Place a rolled blanket beneath your knees to relieve pressure on the lower back and support deeper relaxation.
